So, it seems that you are new to world of internet income. Basically You can earn from internet in two ways. Active and Passive.
Active : You participate in it. Like viewing Ads, Playing games, Searching internet and more..
Passive : Your participation is limited. Like publishing Ads, writing Articles and so on.
The first category is named “Active” since the income you get is directly proportional to the amount of work you do or the time you spend on it. For example, There are some sites that give away money for playing. So the more you play there are more chances of earning money.
The second category is named “Passive” since the income you get is not going to depend on you (majorly). For example, Publishing Ads through Adsense, the money you get will not depend on you rather it depends on people who visit your site or Blog. More the people click the Ads the more you earn (Don’t click Ads yourself, if you do you will be permanently banned from Adsense). So here the money is directly proportional to viewers. More are the viewers then more will be clicks (may be). The only work you do is to attract viewers (Your content should be good).
